Hojat-ul-Islam Hamid Shahriari made the remarks in his opening speech at the 37th International Islamic Unity Conference, which was held in Tehran on Sunday.

He praised the bilateral move as a “role model” for other regional countries and a sign of understanding that outside players cannot achieve sustainable goals in the region. He said, “This move promises long-term peace and cooperation for the entire region.”

Shahriari expressed hope that the improved ties between the two countries would lead to collaboration in science and technology, regional security, political power, and fruitful economic and cultural exchanges. He also called for severing the hands of enemies from the region as a necessity for realizing a unified Islamic Ummah.

Shahriari emphasized the importance of the Holy Quran as a unique guideline for humanity that brings the message of friendship with Muslims and resistance against the tyrants and oppressors. He also stressed that cooperation among Islamic countries would guarantee the expansion of economic and diplomatic relations and open a new corridor of economic and cultural exchanges.

Shahriari touched upon the issue of Palestine as a key issue for the Islamic world and stressed that the support for the Palestinian nation and holy al-Aqsa should go beyond words.

The 37th Islamic Unity Conference was attended by more than 260 Muslim scholars in its online section and over 230 officials and religious figures in its in-person section. The theme of the conference was "Islamic Cooperation to Achieve Common Values".
