TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Iranian Noor (light) Convoy sent to Iraq to hold Quranic programs during the Arbaeen season concluded its activities.

Headed by Seyed Mohammad Moojani, the convoy included Quran reciters Hamed Alizadeh, Masood Nikdasti, Omid Hosseininejad, Rasool Doostmohammadi, Mehdi Alamkhah and Ehsan Bayat, among others.

Members of Najm al-Saqib Tawasheeh (religious singing) group were also part of the convoy.

It organized various programs, including recitation circles and Tawasheeh performances, on the Najaf-Karbala road from September 25 to 28.

Arbaeen, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions in the 680AD Battle of Karbala.

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias, including many Iranians, flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites on Arbaeen.

This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, only around 60,000 Iranians were allowed to attend the Arbaeen procession in Iran.
