Egypt Plans Interfaith Dialogue Conference

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Awqaf minister of Egypt said his country plans to organize an interreligious dialogue conference.

 

Speaking in a meeting with a number of Christian scholars in Asyut Governorate, Mohamed Mukhtar Gomaa said it will be held in March 2021, Youm7 website reported.

He also underlined the need for peaceful coexistence based on mutual respect among followers of different religions.

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has called for dialogue among religions to boost the principles of coexistence, teh Egyptian official added.

The culture of peaceful coexistence among faiths should be institutionalized in society, he said, stressing the need to confront those who disrespect and insult other religions.

During his trip to the governorate, Gomaa also visited the Amir Sinan Mosque in al-Sharif village, which is undergoing restoration work.
