LONDON (IQNA) – The Bournemouth Islamic Centre & Central Mosque in Bournemouth, England has been attacked repeatedly over the last year.

It has seen its windows smashed and pig meat thrown at the door in a spate of attacks over the last year.

The mosque is urging BCP Council to allow it to build taller fences and install alarms around the site in St Stephen’s Road.

The Imam, Majid Yasin said: “We have had many attacks in the past, people have thrown bricks into our windows, some people have graffitied red paint on the wall, and someone has even thrown pork at the door.”

And worshippers are worried for their safety.

Majid Yasin pleaded to the council: “Please look after our community, don't put them in the corner. I would like to protect our people. I would like to protect our children. I would like to protect our ladies.”

In order to be allowed to build the fence, BCP Council needs to give permission, but the mosque has been waiting over a year for approval and had two applications rejected in the process.

Now, “time is critical” as Majid Yasin fears the grant given to them by the Home Office, which the mosque applied to for the extra security, will expire.

He said: “We ignore the hate. We don't do anything or with anything against anybody. We are very positive people with everybody, we are respect everybody and all we ask is that people do the same.”

The cost of adding a new and larger fence, similar to their neighbors, as well as an alarm system is estimated to be around £40,000.
