In his message, the president described Eid al-Fitr as the Eid of forgiveness and compassion and one of unity in the Islamic Ummah, purity of the soul, and staying away from prejudices, violence and extremism.
The president passed on good wishes to his counterparts, and Muslim nations and governments on the auspicious occasion.
Elsewhere in his message, President Rouhani regretted that during this year's holy month of Ramadan, which is the month of peace and compassion, Muslims have been witnessing the Zionist regime's atrocities in Gaza and terrorist activities aimed at fomenting discord and disunity in countries like Syria and Iraq.
He expressed the hope that under the guidance of the Holy Quran and the holy prophet's (PBUH) Sunnah, Muslim nations remain vigilant against the conspiracies of the enemies and strengthen Islamic unity.
At the end of the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims throughout the world observe a joyous celebration called Eid al-Fitr (the Festival of Fast-Breaking). It falls on the first day of Shawwal, the month which follows Ramadan in the Islamic calendar.
It is a time to give in charity to those in need, and celebrate with family and friends the completion of a month of fasting, blessings and joy.
