TEHRAN (IQNA) – There are several verses in the Quran which point to the fate of those who deny God and the Day of Judgement. God has warned them in various ways and Surah As-Sajdah contains God’s promise of severe punishment for these people.

As-Sajdah is the 32nd Surah of the Holy Quran. Containing 30 verses, the Surah is in the 21st Juz of the Quran. A Makki Surah, As-Sajdah is the 75th Surah revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Its name is rooted in verse 15 as those who are reciting or hearing the verse should do the act of prostration (sajdah). The verse names prostration and humiliation before God as prominent features of believers.

The Surah points to Akhirah, the creation of the universe, and the creation of man while also warning deniers of Akhirah and giving good tidings to those who do good deeds.

According to Allameh Tabatabaei, the main aim of the Surah is to provide a reason for the origin of the universes and Akhirah while also trying to answer related questions. The Surah also promises a reward for the righteous which they cannot believe.

The Surah seeks to strengthen one’s faith and propel individuals on the path of Taqwa and human values while also barring them from sins.

There are verses at the beginning of the Surah which describe the greatness of the Holy Quran and its revelation. It also talks about God’s mercies to humans with regard to their learning of knowledge.

Surah As-Sajdah promises Paradise for the believers and hell for the infidels. It issues a strong warning for the infidels, threatening them with eternal punishment in Akhirah and a minor one in this world.
