Iranian Official Denies Reports on Resumption of Pilgrimage to Iraqi Holy Cities
Hojat-ol-Islam Sohbatollah Rahamani said resuming pilgrimage trips to Iraq needs an approval from the National Headquarters for Combating the Coronavirus but no such approval has been given yet.
After the spread of the coronavirus caused a halt in sending pilgrims to Iraq, experts from the Health Ministry and the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization drafted a set of regulations to ensure the health of those going on the pilgrimage once it is resumed, he said.
People will be informed as soon as the headquarters issues the approval, the cleric added, urging people not to pay attention to rumors in this regard.
The novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19, has infected more than 110 million people around the world. Nearly 2.4 million have died of the disease.
The outbreak has had a major impact on global sporting, cultural, religious and political events, with a host of events canceled or postponed.
