Brunei Islamic University, Dagestan Mufti Sign Agreement for Cooperation

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Grand Mufti of the Republic of Dagestan and the president of the Islamic University of Brunei signed an agreement to develop mutual cooperation.

 

According to Islam.ru, the agreement was signed in a meeting of Sheikh Ahmad Afandi, the Grand Mufti and Nurarfan bin Zaynal and his deputy Hajj Simali bin Adam Sultan from Sharif-Ali Islamic University.

The meeting was held in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan on February 16.

The Mufti stressed the importance of the meeting in boosting cooperation in various fields, Islam.ru website reported.

The two parties signed an agreement on cooperation between the Islamic University of Brunei and several educational institutions affiliated to the Dagestani Muftiyat (office for Muslims affairs).

The Republic of Dagestan is a federal subject (a republic) of Russia, located in the North Caucasus region. 83 percent of Dagestan’s population is Muslims.

In Dagestan there are number of Islamic Universities and madrassas, notable among them are Dagestan Islamic University and Institute of Theology and International Relations.
