TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai distributed thousands of the UAE’s national Mushaf (copy of Quran) and Islamic books in English among different mosques in New Zealand, the Republic of Fiji and the Kingdom of Tonga (the countries bordering the Pacific Ocean).

According to al-Watan newspaper, the embassy of the United Arab Emirates in New Zealand supervised the distribution of 2000 copies of the “Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum” Mushaf and its translation in English among new Muslim converts in the island country.

A large number of Islamic works published by the department and some other charity institutes were also distributed by the embassy.

The Quran copies and Islamic books, which are in English and Arabic, were gifted to mosques and new Muslims on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.

The plan was welcomed and commended by the schools and Islamic centers in New Zealand and the Pacific Ocean countries.

The number of Muslims in New Zealand according to the 2013 census is about 46,000, up 28% from 36,000 in the 2006 census.
