Quran Competition Underway in Lebanon

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The preliminary stage of a Quran competition in Lebanon has been underway in different parts of the country since January 11.

According to lebanon24.com, this is the second edition of the Quran contest titled “Tripoli Resolve Award” which is being held at a national level this year.

It has been jointly organized by the Dar al-Ifta of Lebanon and the “Resolve and Salvation” Social Association.

Abdul Ilah Mikati, head of the organizing committee of the competition, said more than 60 memorizers of the entire Quran from different provinces of Lebanon will make it to the final stage of the competition, slated to be held on March 22 in Tripoli.

Memorization of the entire Quran along with observation of the rules of Tajweed is the main category of the contest.

It will also include a research category featuring “peace in the Quran” as well as a Moderate Islamic Figure of the Year Award.

Encouraging people, especially the youth, to memorize, recite and contemplate the Quran is among the objectives of the Quranic event.

Ahmad Isaa Mi’sarawi, top Egyptian Qari, Mahmoud ‘Akkawi, Sheikh of Qaris in Beirut, Bilal Baroudi Sheikh of Qaris in Tripoli, Ibrahim Aqad Sheikh of Qaris in Saida, Ali Ghazawi Sheikh of Qaris in Beqqa, and Ziad Al-Haj Sheikh of Qaris in Qalamoun, Koura and Batroun are the members of the competition's panel of judges

The preliminary stage will conclude on February 11.

Last year, 32 contenders from various countries attended the competition, held on March 21-24.
