Iraqi Envoy Attends Meeting in Tehran on Arbaeen Pilgrimage
TEHRAN (IQNA) – A meeting of officials in charge of organizing Iranians’ participation in the annual Arbaeen march was held in Tehran earlier this week.
Iraq’s ambassador to Iran also took part in the gathering.
Arbaeen marks the 40th day after Ashura, the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his faithful companions in the 680AD Battle of Karbala.
Every year, a huge crowd of Shias, including Iranians, march toward the Iraqi city of Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rituals.
This year, Arbaeen falls on Thursday, November 9.
